A downloadable Defunct MMO for Windows

A NIGHTMARE IN 1024x768

On a summer day in 2008 you find yourself lurking on Hypogeum.net, a niche forum that used to be centered around an MMO known as "Gorgon's Garden," before the game became inaccessible due to the introduction of a paywall for a long-defunct digital currency.

However... The forum's resident hacker has successfully managed to crack said MMO, removing the paywall and allowing users to explore it all over again.

So you download the cracker and run it...

And that's when the trouble starts.

CONTENT WARNING:

This game contains grotesque body horror of varying shades of "euuughh..." You may want to pass on playing the game if that bothers you.

Gorgon's Garden is a love letter to old forum culture and the generally more earnest and amateur tone of older creepypastas. It's a bit of horror, a bit of humor, all contained within a virtual desktop you can toy around with. Change your cursor, download weird images to set as your background, pick through bizarre forums with a colorful cast of characters, and explore an MMO that seems curiously devoid of any other players...

You can expect the game to take around 30 minutes to an hour, so it's a perfect fit to squeeze into the end of the day, when the vibes are just right.

Happy Halloween!

Watched a playthrough of this and I intend to play it myself when I can, but I would just like to say that the story itself really resonated with me. It reminded me of an experience that I had forgotten about, involving the disappearance of a dear friend I had when I was younger. 100/10. The amount of work you guys managed to get done within a week is insane to me, and the game is absolutely amazing considering the time constraints!

damn!... where can i get MY FREE CURSORS?! MY FREE CURSORS THAT WHERE PROMISED FOR EVERYONE?!... XD XP

(no but seriously i think that some the cursors in the game look actually really cool!... do you think you can idk give out a like a zip file for the cursors so we can use them with are computers?! i wouldn't mind that! i like customizing that sort of thing! Xp C: ...)

This was a very fun little game. The graphical style and the handling of the forum is really neat. I love the enemy designs. The puzzle stumped me a bit, but I thought it was really clever by the end! Thank you for making this game, I hope you can make more wonderful things in the future.

Un saludo a Dulce D. Leche.

I see the trailer for this a while ago and I can't believe it was free!

Really really solid game!! I absolutely loved reading the forum posts and the game is really fun/ well written in general. Will be checking more out from yall! :3

just finished. lovely, lovely experience... i both miss and don't miss these kinds of forums now, hehe x)

(+2)

The game has a very strong aesthetic, and I loved the interactivity of the computer & all of the things to read and download on it, you guys went above and beyond there. One of my favorite parts was the free cursor app. Very cool game.

I didn't face the crashing issue others are describing, but the game does make my computer fan kick into overdrive for some reason, which is strange because it shouldn't be that demanding.

(+3)

This seems like it would be a really fun game, but I'm having the same issue that a few other people are. When you actually load up the Gorgon's Garden app in game it freezes after a few minutes no matter what I've done. Cool vibes, but unplayable for me unfortunately.

I have found the soundtrack for the game, but the song I'm looking for is not included in the Gorgon's Garden MMO OST found in Fever Dream Johnny's SoundCloud. I'm looking for the song in the trailer/the song for the Hypogeum Forums.

it's by Maple, tho she unfortunately hasnt decided to release it anywhere

Damn, thanks anyways homie!

(+1)

I just screen recorded it and threw it on YT because I was also looking for it

Hell yeah, thanks partner

(+1)

It's not opening for me? It does an opening thing for a frame and disappears forever :(

(+1)

did you find a way to open it yet?

no :(

(+3)

really interesting but i cant get much further than the forum part at the beginning. the game keeps crashing right around the paywall part and i cant figure out why.

if anyone knows why it does this then lmk!

(+3)

like, i really wish i could go further cause so far the vibes are immaculate!

Feverdream Johnny and Squp have done it again.

Please good sir add mobile support please please please

amazing game! the visuals are incredible and i had a really fun time playing the actual GG for a bit there. loved the forum sections and the different characters in it - the build up to the reveal of the last few posts was great. agree that it would've been cool to get some foreshadowing with the first reveal, it felt like we got shoved into this horror arg immediately after casually playing through GG. regardless, really liked the puzzles and the gameplay, excited for more in the future!

this was made in 1 WEEK                         How

this game is AMAZING tbh I didnt understand the story cause I wasnt really paying attention to it, but it captures both the feeling of old forums, and a video game that isnt supposed to be creepy, but is still terrifying, soooo wellllll.

good game!

I hope you like my game at this link

(+2)

really cool game!
i wish there was a lil bit more foreshadowing before becoming dylan
and the gameplay can be a bit slow
but i still liked it a lot :D
The forum sections are easily my favorite::D

I go absolutely nuts for anything related to old abandoned MMOs

This game is awesome! I wish forums were real.

Maybe some narrative elements flew over my head, but imo some narrative foreshadowing before suddenly becoming someone else would made the reveal hit way deeper.

But that in-universe ARG is crazy. That was an unique experience, thank you.

(+1)

That was great! If that's what you guys can cook up in a week, I can't wait for what you guys will do next. Thank you for making this!

Bro why post a game if theres a paywall /j

(1 edit) (-1)

What paywall? :3 reading the in game forums have clicking in  game  "links" night help if stuck ;)

(+1)

I really enjoyed this. It is excellent. I'm glad to play a puzzle game like this, and it has so much charm and mystery!

(+1)

I loved this! The forum part was so accurate to real life lol, I only wish there was more game.

Awesome game for a one-week project. Being able to see the ‘real world’ from the screen’s reflection definitely adds to the feeling

Horror + nightmare + Psychology =

Huge ups for this one! Stellar puzzles and fun gameplay.

i love forums can’t wait to play this

(+2)

absolutely beautiful game. great story and puzzles, but god i wish there was more! is there any plan to continue this in the future? please don't make me beg (although I will, if it'll work)

(+5)

An expanded spiritual successor in the same setting as Gorgon's Garden is planned for the future, but I've got a queue of projects to work through first so we'll see!

couldn't open exe. nothing happens sadly. I have windows10

growing in the 90s and not having my first computer till high school so I kind of missed out this era of the internet so this was kind of fun for me.

on another note is there any plans to make a more extended version like what no players online did?

(+1)

wow, that was amazing.

(+1)

Absolutely loved this.

(+2)

really good! it feels like a horrific version of hypospace outlaw. my favorite part was honestly reading all of the forum posts, there so very well written and just plain fun to read. my only problem with the game is that it ends so abruptly! i would love to see this expanded into a full length game!!

Is there no way to save the game? I made progress earlier, quit, and when I started it back up I was back to square one. What gives?

(+2)(-8)

Game on 2025 and not supported linux? Lol

(+4)

Wine.

The aesthetic of this game is second to none, it was a visual treat to walk around. I also found combat strangely satisfying but I felt bad fighting all the cute little demons :( Also was a big fan of the forum posts, there's every flavor of forum user in there LMAO. Won't spoil the game, but it definitely went in a direction I wasn't expecting.

I'm a big fan of using a computer to access files and searching around for answers to proceed, this game did it very well. Reading the forum was a joy and the atmosphere was well built.
